My research examines how sex- and gender-related factors affect brain health across the adult lifespan, with a primary focus on ovarian hormones and cognition. In the Galea lab, I leverage multimodal data to study how menopausal symptoms, hormone therapy, and genetic factors associated with cognition and dementia risk interact to influence cognitive aging.
I completed my PhD at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Dr. Michael Mack, where I studied complex cognition across the menstrual cycle using behavioral, neuroimaging, and computational approaches. One of the most rewarding parts of this work was developing a new methodological approach for characterizing effects of the menstrual cycle on brain and behaviour.
My secondary research focus is on psychosocial determinants of health (e.g., childhood adversity, gendered lived experience), including their interactions with biological factors. I approach these biopsychosocial interactions through quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods. In addition to research, I contribute to Sex- and Gender-Based Analysis Plus (SGBA+) education at CAMH. Outside of the lab, I enjoy reading, hiking, and petting as many dogs as possible.
